Transforming Lives For A Safer New York is a program that advocates for rehabilitative opportunities for inmates in prisons, and calls for the elimination of punitive measures counterproductive to that of rehabilitation.
We demand that New York honor the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights which it signed. This legal contract states that "persons deprived of their liberty shall be treated with humanity and with respect for the inherent dignity of the human person.... The penitentiary system shall comprise treatment of prisoners the essential aim shall be their reformation and social rehabilitation.”
This drawing was created by a New York State prisoner to illustrate Plato's classic tale of The Parable of The Cave. The story describes the profound impact that lack of education can have on a human being.
